The France chair was originally designed for industrial production with extremely high demands on quality. The manufacturer C. W. F. France identified and started partnerships with some of the most promising Danish furniture designers – most prominently Finn Juhl – and together they developed furniture for an industrial production that could be sold flat-packed.

Today, the France chair represents an important link in the international narrative about Danish design, where traditional craftsmanship and industrial production merged into original design of exceptional quality.
